Who would have thought that the young Filipina with the beautiful smile, gorgeous eyes and great sense of humour, who registered Bill Godfrey for a Winter Sports course at Humber College in 1973, would become his life partner and share 50 incredible years of love and laughter?
Josie and Bill came from completely different worlds, different cultures and different religions, but together they built a beautiful life — one that embraces both Canadian traditions and vibrant Filipino flavours. Bill went from classic comfort foods like hot dogs, ground beef, and mashed potatoes to pancit, adobo, sinigang, and his now-favourite dessert: halo-halo.

Today, surrounded by their beloved son and 5-year-old grandson, they celebrate not only a remarkable milestone of 50 years of marriage, but also a journey defined by shared values, family, and community.
From Love Story to Leadership in the Community
Beyond their personal story, Bill Godfrey has spent decades serving his community in Brampton with passion and purpose. One of his most impactful initiatives has been the founding of P.A.L. – People Against Littering, a grassroots movement dedicated to keeping neighbourhoods clean, green, and welcoming.

Under Bill’s leadership, P.A.L. has inspired residents to take pride in their surroundings. What began as a simple call to action for neighbours to pick up litter has evolved into a city-wide campaign promoting civic responsibility, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
From weekend clean-up drives to educational outreach in schools and community groups, P.A.L. has become a recognized name in Brampton’s environmental scene. Bill’s approachable leadership style — leading by example with gloves in hand and a warm smile — has motivated hundreds of volunteers to participate over the years.

A Golden Anniversary That Reflects Shared Values
Bill’s personal and public lives share a common thread: love, commitment, and building community. His marriage to Josie stands as a testament to the power of embracing differences and creating something lasting together. His public mission reflects that same spirit — bringing people together for a common cause and inspiring change through action.
“Half a century later, I’m still amazed at how a simple encounter turned into a lifetime of memories,” Bill reflects. “And just like our marriage, building a better community takes patience, kindness, and teamwork.”
Congratulations from the Community

We wish them many more years of happiness, health, and continued service to the community.”
