B.C. Conservative MP says Liberals courting floor crossers to secure majority

VERNON, B.C. — A British Columbia Conservative MP says he has been approached about crossing the floor to support Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government, but insists he has no intention of doing so.

Scott Anderson, the Conservative MP for Vernon–Lake Country–Monashee, said in a social media post that the Liberals are “pulling out all the stops” in an effort to entice opposition MPs and shore up a parliamentary majority.

“I’m not interested in betraying my constituents,” Anderson wrote, adding that he would reject any such offer regardless of what was promised.

Anderson’s comments follow the recent defections of two Conservative MPs to the Liberal benches. Chris d’Entremont crossed the floor in November, followed by Michael Ma last month. Both cited concerns about Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s leadership style as a factor in their decisions.

Anderson dismissed suggestions that there is a broader movement within the Conservative caucus to remove Poilievre, calling it a narrative being advanced by the Liberals and media. He described the idea of replacing Poilievre with what he termed a “milquetoast Conservative leader” as a myth.

The MP also criticized the Liberal government’s record, accusing it of making hollow promises on major infrastructure projects while increasing taxes and spending heavily to entrench its political power. He alleged the government is attempting to “bribe” Conservative MPs to cross the floor.

Anderson said he remains firmly opposed to any such move, regardless of personal or political incentives.

“It’ll be a cold day in Hell before I even consider betraying my constituents,” he wrote. “You should probably stop asking, because I will certainly advertise it every time you try.”
