Atishi Appointed New Chief Minister of Delhi Following Kejriwal’s Resignation

In a significant development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister of Delhi, paving the way for Atishi to take over the leadership. Atishi, a key member of Kejriwal’s cabinet, has been unanimously selected as the new leader of AAP’s legislative party. She will serve as the Chief Minister until the next Assembly elections, which are scheduled for February, though Kejriwal has hinted at calling for early elections as soon as next month.

Atishi’s rise marks a new era for the Aam Aadmi Party. Known for her work in the education sector as an advisor to Kejriwal’s government, she has been instrumental in reforming Delhi’s public schools, and her political acumen has made her a popular figure within the party. Atishi has also served as a minister, holding multiple portfolios, including education, health, and public works.

Kejriwal’s decision to step down comes amid rising political pressure and challenges in managing Delhi’s complex political landscape. His resignation is seen as part of a larger strategy to revitalize the party ahead of the upcoming elections. The decision to hand over power to Atishi is viewed as a strategic move to position a fresh leader while maintaining the core values of AAP.

Speaking to the media, Kejriwal expressed confidence in Atishi’s leadership, stating, “Atishi is a strong and capable leader who has proven her mettle. She will carry forward our mission to serve the people of Delhi.” He further added that his resignation is not a retreat from politics but an opportunity for new leadership to emerge in the state.

Atishi, in her remarks, thanked Kejriwal for his support and vowed to continue his work in making Delhi a model state. She emphasized her commitment to delivering on key promises, including improvements in public health, education, and infrastructure.

The political transition has garnered mixed reactions from the public and opposition parties. While AAP supporters have welcomed Atishi’s appointment, some political commentators view Kejriwal’s resignation as a sign of internal challenges within the party. Opposition leaders have expressed skepticism, stating that the resignation is a strategic maneuver ahead of the upcoming elections.

As Delhi gears up for its next Assembly election, all eyes are now on Atishi and her ability to lead AAP through this critical phase.
