Assault reports in Mississauga and Brampton have surged past 1,800 so far in 2025, according to data released by Peel Regional Police. Between January 1 and April 26, police recorded a total of 1,839 assaults across the two cities — 900 incidents in Mississauga and 936 in Brampton. In addition, there was one assault reported in Caledon and two in Toronto that fell under Peel police jurisdiction.
This averages out to more than 16 assault-related crimes every day in the region.
Police data identified 26 common hotspots where 10 or more assaults occurred. Among the most impacted areas were Dundas Street with 47 incidents, Hurontario Street with 28, Dixie Road with 26, Airport Road with 25, and Queen Street with 23. Other notable locations included Lakeshore Road, Main Street, and Goreway Drive, each with over 19 reported occurrences.
Despite the high number of reports, police have successfully solved 1,260 of these assault cases. Investigations are ongoing in 256 cases, while 323 remain unsolved. Peel police have not released detailed information about the specific types of assaults involved or the nature of injuries sustained by victims.
Some notable cases this year include the arrest of a Mississauga man following online chats that led to the sexual assault of a teenager, charges laid against a religious leader accused of sexual assault in a Brampton home, and violent carjackings targeting senior men in Mississauga.
In light of these rising incidents, Peel police continue to encourage residents to take precautionary measures to protect themselves. Safety tips include avoiding opening doors to strangers, planning well-lit travel routes, staying accompanied when possible, locking car doors immediately upon entry, and seeking safe public places if followed. Police advise that in a robbery situation, it’s safer not to resist if someone tries to snatch personal belongings, but to prioritize personal safety and report the crime immediately.
As assaults continue at a concerning pace, Peel police stress the importance of vigilance and community awareness to help reduce victimization and assist ongoing investigations.
