Arvind Kejriwal Arrest Update: 7 Days in Enforcement Directorate Custody

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appeared in the Rouse Avenue Court today, where the Enforcement Directorate requested a 10-day custody. However, he has been remanded to seven days in Enforcement Directorate custody.

During Mr. Kejriwal’s appearance in court, AAP ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj were detained by the police amid protests against his arrest. The Enforcement Directorate took Mr. Kejriwal into custody last night in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

AAP supporters initiated protests at Delhi’s ITO, prompting heightened security measures with paramilitary forces deployed to maintain order. Access to AAP’s office in Delhi has been restricted due to road closures.

Reportedly, Mr. Kejriwal has withdrawn his Supreme Court petition against his arrest and will pursue legal recourse in a lower court. He was apprehended by a 12-member team of the probe agency at his official residence on Thursday night, following a search warrant.

The Enforcement Directorate has commenced questioning the Chief Minister. Despite his arrest, AAP affirmed that Mr. Kejriwal will continue his duties from jail. Atishi, an AAP leader, emphasized that there’s no doubt about Mr. Kejriwal’s position as Chief Minister, stating that he was summoned nine times by the probe agency but refused to comply, deeming the summonses illegal.
