Arrests Made in Record-Breaking $20 Million Gold Heist at Pearson Airport

Authorities have made several arrests connected to the audacious theft of over $20 million in gold from Pearson Airport in Mississauga, which occurred last year and stands as the largest heist in Canadian history. Peel Regional Police disclosed the arrests this afternoon, with plans to share more details at a press conference scheduled for early Wednesday morning at a police facility in Brampton.

The involvement of a special agent from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in the upcoming press conference indicates potential cross-border implications of the heist, which took place on April 17, 2023. This high-profile robbery, which captured international attention, involved thieves with likely insider knowledge, executing a well-organized plan to access valuables from an Air Canada cargo facility immediately after their arrival from Europe.

Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah and Detective Sergeant Mike Mavity will also be present at the press briefing, which is expected to begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The incident has drawn significant public interest, echoing past Canadian heists such as the infamous Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist and a notable gold bullion theft in 1952 from what was then Malton Airport.
