Police in York Region are searching for a suspect following an armed bank robbery at a busy Richmond Hill plaza earlier this month.
Investigators say the robbery occurred on January 15 at approximately 2:20 p.m. at a bank located near the intersection of Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road. Officers responding to the scene were told that a male suspect entered the bank armed with a firearm, made threats, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The bank is situated within a plaza known for heavy pedestrian traffic, raising concerns that the suspect may have been seen by shoppers or drivers in the area before or after the incident.
Police describe the suspect as a man about five feet nine inches tall with a medium build. At the time of the robbery, he was reportedly wearing a black toque, black jacket, black gloves, black pants, dark-coloured shoes, and a distinctive dinosaur-themed scarf.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or who has dashcam footage recorded between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. that day, to contact police.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to identify and locate the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward or provide tips anonymously.
