Anime-Clad School Bus Driver Removed After ‘Lolita Line’ Sign Sparks Outrage in Vaughan

A Vaughan school bus driver has been banned from routes serving the York Catholic District School Board after sparking outrage for displaying a sign reading “Lolita Line” in the window of their vehicle while dressed in what appeared to be an anime-inspired costume.

The incident came to light after a video surfaced online showing a group of concerned parents confronting the driver outside St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Elementary School in Woodbridge. One parent is heard questioning the driver: “Why do you call your bus the Lolita Line?” The driver responded calmly, saying, “I do this every day and I don’t think there’s an issue.”

The situation quickly gained traction on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), drawing widespread criticism and alarm due to the inappropriate connotations associated with the term “Lolita,” often linked to the sexualization of young girls in popular culture.

In response, the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) acted swiftly. Mark Brosens, YCDSB’s communications manager, confirmed that the driver would no longer be assigned to any of the board’s schools. In a letter sent to parents, the board emphasized that it had followed all appropriate child protection procedures and immediately raised the issue with the bus company, Landmark Student Transport.

Landmark, based in Aurora, declined to comment on whether the driver would continue working other routes outside the YCDSB. The company did, however, assure the school board that similar incidents would not occur in the future. The incident has reignited discussions around professional boundaries, student safety, and the responsibilities of those entrusted with transporting children.
