Andrew Kania, a prominent lawyer and former Member of Parliament, has officially been nominated as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Brampton West. The announcement was made at a special event hosted by Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, marking a pivotal moment in Kania’s return to politics.
“I’ve known Andrew for years and witnessed his unwavering commitment to the people of Brampton — in the House of Commons, in courtrooms, and as a dedicated advocate for his community,” said Crombie. “Together, we have a plan to deliver more for Brampton residents: more affordability by reducing income taxes and eliminating HST on home heating and hydro; better healthcare by connecting people to family doctors and reducing emergency room wait times; and support for young people through fairer housing policies and lower taxes on new builds.”
Crombie, who served alongside Kania in the House of Commons, emphasized her confidence in his ability to be a strong voice for Brampton West. “It’s time to deliver real change for Brampton,” she added. “I’m thrilled to announce Andrew Kania as our Ontario Liberal candidate for Brampton West.”
In his remarks, Kania expressed enthusiasm for joining Crombie’s team and outlined his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Ontarians. “Bonnie and I worked together as Members of Parliament, and I’ve seen her brilliance and dedication firsthand. She understands the affordability crisis under Doug Ford’s government and is committed to providing real financial relief for families,” Kania said. “I’m honored to be running as part of her team.”
With over 33 years of legal experience, Kania is the Senior Counsel at Kania Lawyers and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada and numerous courts across the country. His political career includes serving as the Member of Parliament for Brampton West, where he held significant roles such as Associate Justice Critic and Chair of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations. Additionally, Kania was elected Secretary of the Ontario Bar Association, representing over 17,000 lawyers in the province.
Kania’s contributions extend beyond his professional career. He has supported underprivileged families, collaborated with local high schools on co-op placements, and worked with food banks to help those in need. He also founded a Canadian charity at the request of Pope Benedict XVI and Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, supporting the construction of the Pope John Paul II Memorial in Krakow, Poland.
A devoted family man, Kania has been married to his wife Susan for over 30 years and is the proud father of two sons, Drew and James. His deep connection to the community fuels his passion for public service and his commitment to advocating for the values that matter most to Brampton West residents.
As the Ontario Liberal candidate for Brampton West, Andrew Kania brings a wealth of experience in law, politics, and community service. He is poised to champion policies aimed at making life more affordable, improving healthcare access, and ensuring fair housing opportunities for Ontarians.
