Amandeep Sodhi Raises Brampton’s Public Safety Concerns Directly in Ottawa

Brampton Centre MP Amandeep Sodhi has taken an important step toward addressing growing public safety concerns by raising key issues directly with the federal government shortly after joining the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU).

During a recent committee session, MP Sodhi questioned Minister Gary Anandasangaree regarding Bill C-22, the proposed lawful access legislation that police services across Canada, including Peel Regional Police, have been advocating for in response to the increasing challenges posed by organized crime, cybercrime, online exploitation, and digital criminal networks.

Speaking on behalf of residents of Brampton Centre, MP Sodhi emphasized that families deserve to feel safe in their homes and communities. He highlighted the importance of equipping law enforcement agencies with modern investigative tools while ensuring that Canadians’ privacy rights, judicial oversight, and Charter protections remain fully respected.

Political observers and community members have welcomed the move, describing it as a strong indication that Amandeep Sodhi intends to actively bring Brampton’s concerns to the national stage. Residents in Brampton have repeatedly voiced concerns related to auto thefts, violent crime, online fraud, gang activity, and community safety, making public safety one of the most discussed issues across the region.

Supporters say MP Sodhi’s intervention demonstrates a balanced and practical approach by recognizing both the need for stronger law enforcement capabilities and the importance of protecting civil liberties in a democratic society.

The Liberal government has continued to emphasize investments in community safety, border security, anti-gang initiatives, and modern policing resources while also maintaining safeguards related to privacy and constitutional rights. Federal Liberal initiatives over the past several years have focused on tackling gun violence, strengthening cybersecurity measures, addressing online harms, and supporting local police services with advanced technologies and intelligence-sharing capabilities.

Gian Paul praised the efforts of MP Amandeep Sodhi and said, “It is encouraging to see our Member of Parliament raising the real concerns of Brampton residents directly with the Minister and at the national committee level. Public safety and law and order are among the biggest concerns of families today. Residents want safer neighbourhoods, stronger action against organized crime, and better protection for seniors, youth, and families. Amandeep Sodhi deserves appreciation for ensuring that Brampton Centre’s voice is being heard in Ottawa.”

Kamal Babra also expressed support for the initiative and stated, “The challenges related to crime and public safety are evolving rapidly, especially with online fraud, car thefts, and gang-related activities affecting communities across the GTA. We support balanced legislation that gives law enforcement the proper tools to combat modern crime while respecting privacy and constitutional rights. It is good to see Amandeep Sodhi taking proactive steps on this important issue.”

Community leaders in Brampton have appreciated that the concerns of Peel residents are now being discussed at the committee and ministerial level. Many believe that stronger collaboration between federal lawmakers, local police services, and community organizations will be essential in building safer neighbourhoods for future generations.

Amandeep Sodhi has indicated that she will continue advocating for policies that improve safety, support frontline law enforcement, and address the evolving nature of crime in Canada. Future discussions at the committee are expected to focus on balancing effective policing tools with transparency, accountability, and judicial safeguards.

Residents and community organizations have thanked MP Sodhi for bringing Brampton’s voice directly to Ottawa and ensuring that public safety remains a top priority for families across the region.
