Expectant parents in Mississauga will soon have only one hospital option for childbirth, as Trillium Health Partners announced that beginning October 8, all deliveries and inpatient services for women and children will be consolidated at Credit Valley Hospital.
The change comes as part of major construction underway at Mississauga Hospital, located at Queensway and Hurontario Street. Credit Valley Hospital, at Erin Mills Parkway and Eglinton Avenue West, has been renovated to accommodate the transition and meet the growing demand for maternity and pediatric care.
“We are bringing these services together at Credit Valley Hospital to create a more organized and streamlined care model for our patients and employees,” Trillium Health Partners said in a statement. “This change will also provide a consistent patient experience and more effectively manage the increasing demand in our community.”
Mississauga Hospital has been the birthplace of thousands since it opened in 1958. Credit Valley joined the city’s maternity care landscape in 1985, and today both operate under Trillium Health Partners, which oversees nearly 8,000 births annually — a number projected to rise to 10,000, among the highest in Canada.
The shift is temporary. When construction is complete — a process that could take up to a decade — deliveries will return to the redeveloped Mississauga Hospital. The new Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will be part of what is expected to become one of the largest healthcare facilities in Canada.
Despite the changes, emergency care will continue uninterrupted at both hospitals. Patients arriving at Mississauga Hospital who require specialized obstetric or pediatric care will be safely transferred to Credit Valley. Several pediatric outpatient services, including the Family Care Centre and Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Services, will also remain at or adjacent to Mississauga Hospital.
Trillium Health Partners reassured the community that the transition is designed to ensure expectant families and children continue receiving safe, timely, and specialized care.
