Air Canada Flight to Toronto Makes Emergency Landing in Denver After Fire Scare

An Air Canada flight from Denver to Toronto made an emergency landing on Sunday after the crew reported a possible electrical fire shortly after takeoff. Flight 1038, an Airbus A220 bound for Toronto Pearson, returned to Denver around 8:15 a.m., where it landed safely.

Passengers were evacuated on the runway using emergency slides, with video footage showing travelers quickly exiting the aircraft. Air Canada later clarified that the crew detected an acrid smell in a galley area, prompting the precautionary return.

All 117 passengers and five crew members were safely evacuated, though one passenger sustained a minor injury during the slide evacuation. The airline said alternate travel arrangements were made the same day to get passengers to their destinations.

While the aircraft itself was not damaged, the emergency slides will need to be replaced before the plane can return to service in Denver.
