In a shocking turn of events, a 75-year-old man who remarried in hopes of companionship died just hours after his wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district.
The groom, Sangruram of Kuchhmuchh village, had lost his first wife a year earlier and had been living alone since then. With no children, he relied on farming to sustain himself. Despite relatives advising against it, he chose to remarry, seeking a partner late in life.
On September 29, he married 35-year-old Manbhavati from Jalalpur. The couple registered their marriage in court before performing traditional rituals at a local temple. Following the ceremony, Manbhavati said her husband had spoken warmly about building a life together, telling her she should take responsibility for the home while he would look after “the children.” She recalled that much of their wedding night was spent talking.
But by the following morning, Sangruram’s health deteriorated rapidly. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The sudden death has left the village buzzing with speculation. While some locals believe it was a natural consequence of his age, others find the timing suspicious. His relatives, including nephews based in Delhi, have put funeral rites on hold until they arrive. Villagers are also questioning whether a police inquiry or post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
What began as a late-in-life search for companionship has now ended in mystery and mourning, with unanswered questions hanging over the sudden tragedy.
