71-Year-Old Woman Found ‘Alive and Well’ After Four Days Lost in Ontario Forest

Napanee, ON – A missing persons case that could have ended in tragedy instead brought relief and celebration Thursday, as a 71-year-old woman who had been lost in the woods near Greater Napanee for four days was found “alive and well” by search crews.

The woman was reported missing from her Westplain Road residence on Monday, prompting an urgent search effort led by the Lennox & Addington OPP. Given her age and the rugged terrain, there was immediate concern for her safety and wellbeing.

An intensive, multi-day search ensued, with assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team, three OPP Canine Units, ATV patrols, and a helicopter. The operation was further strengthened by volunteers from the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association, Rideau Search and Rescue, and Ottawa Volunteer Search and Rescue.

The breakthrough came just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, when police and volunteers located the woman deep in the forest. Though fatigued, she was found in good condition and was promptly taken for medical evaluation by paramedics.

“I want to thank everyone who played a role in the successful location of this missing person,” said Inspector Dave Tovell, Commander of the Lennox & Addington OPP. “This was an amazing example of teamwork, involving not only OPP members, but those from other agencies, as well as the dedicated volunteers and members of the public who called in potential tips.”

The rescue marks a heartwarming outcome in a case that had the entire community holding its breath—a testament to the power of coordinated search efforts and community collaboration.
