According to police data, Brampton saw 37 of these incidents, while Mississauga reported 30. Alarmingly, 16 of the robberies involved firearms, 25 were committed with other weapons, and 26 were classified under “other” by authorities.

Of the total cases, 16 have been solved, 50 remain under active investigation, and one is unresolved as of June 14.

A number of these crimes occurred in known hotspots, including:

  • Central Park Drive (2)
  • Confederation Parkway (2)
  • Great Lakes Drive (2)
  • Kennedy Road (2)
  • Morrow Bay Drive (2)
  • Steelwell Road (2)

The surge in robberies represents a 52% increase compared to the previous month’s 44 incidents.

Among the most notable cases in the past month:

  • Thieves used heavy machinery to rip out and steal an ATM in Brampton.

  • A 14-year-old was arrested after a failed armed robbery at a Mississauga currency exchange.

Police have not released details on how many arrests were made or whether any injuries occurred during the incidents.

Peel Regional Police continue to encourage local businesses and residents to take preventative measures to reduce vulnerability, including:

  • Installing and maintaining security cameras and proper lighting.
  • Providing robbery prevention training to staff.
  • Keeping cash levels low and using low shelving to improve visibility.
  • Removing window clutter that may block views from outside.

Anyone who witnesses or experiences a robbery is urged to report it immediately to police.
