The Bhavani Shankar Mandir community in Brampton marked a historic occasion this past weekend with the unveiling of a 54-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva, one of Hinduism’s principal deities.
The unveiling ceremony, held on September 6, was preceded by a colorful parade through the community, culminating in the installation of the towering figure on Nexus Avenue. Devotees, community leaders, and families gathered in large numbers to witness the moment, which organizers described as a milestone in celebrating faith and culture in Brampton.
The statue, depicting Shivji in a traditional pose, was created by renowned artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat, who has previously sculpted significant works in over 80 countries. Kumawat is also the creator of the 55-foot Hanuman statue at Sabha Mandir in Brampton and the 51-foot Lord Rama statue unveiled earlier this month in Mississauga.
The two-year project involved constructing the statue in multiple pieces before it was assembled and raised to its full height. Standing tall against the Brampton skyline, the Shiva statue is expected to become both a spiritual landmark and a cultural attraction for the region’s vibrant Hindu community.
