Police report an average of 12 vehicle thefts per day as crime surge continues
Auto theft remains a growing concern in Mississauga and Brampton, with 387 vehicles stolen in the past 31 days, according to Peel Regional Police data.
Between January 21 and February 22, police recorded 190 thefts in Mississauga and 197 in Brampton, averaging over 12 stolen vehicles per day across the region.
Of the stolen vehicles:
- 305 were cars
- 80 were trucks
- 2 were classified as “other”
As of Saturday:
- 11 cases have been solved
- 369 remain under investigation
- 7 cases were deemed unsolved
Certain areas in Mississauga and Brampton have been hit harder than others, with the following locations reporting the highest number of incidents this past month:
- Great Lakes Drive – 16 thefts
- Dixie Road – 13 thefts
- Airport Road – 10 thefts
- Kennedy Road – 9 thefts
- Courtneypark Drive – 8 thefts
- City Centre Drive – 7 thefts
While the current numbers are concerning, auto theft rates appear to have declined compared to last year. Between January and February 2024, Peel police reported 849 stolen vehicles—more than double this year’s figures. By the end of 2024, the total had skyrocketed to 6,657 stolen vehicles in the region.

With vehicle thefts continuing at an alarming rate, Peel police are urging residents to take extra precautions:
✔ Park in a locked garage whenever possible, as most thefts occur in driveways.
✔ Use a steering wheel lock as a visible deterrent.
✔ Install a data port lock to prevent thieves from accessing and reprogramming key fobs.
✔ Invest in a quality security camera system, ensuring it functions properly in both day and night conditions.
