367 Vehicles Stolen in Just One Month Across Mississauga and Brampton

Peel Region is facing another alarming surge in auto thefts, with 367 vehicles reported stolen across Mississauga and Brampton over the past 31 days. Between July 23 and August 23, Peel Regional Police recorded 196 thefts in Mississauga and 171 in Brampton, underscoring a troubling trend that continues to grip both cities.

According to police data, only 11 of the cases have been solved so far, while 311 remain under active investigation and 45 have been classified as unsolved. Among the stolen vehicles, 252 were cars, 75 were trucks, 23 were motorcycles, and 17 were categorized as “other.”

Hotspots continue to emerge across the region. This past month alone, Dixie Road saw 11 reported thefts, Great Lakes Drive recorded 12, and Courtney Park Drive had 8 incidents. These areas remain among the most targeted locations, fueling growing concern among residents about safety and vulnerability in their neighborhoods.

The rise in thefts has been accompanied by several shocking incidents this August, including the carjacking of a Rolls-Royce in Brampton, violent home invasions tied to vehicle thefts, and the tragic death of an 82-year-old man following a carjacking at a local park.

Police are urging residents to take extra precautions. Recommended measures include parking vehicles in locked garages whenever possible, using steering wheel locks as visible deterrents, installing locks on computer data ports to prevent key reprogramming, and setting up reliable video surveillance systems to monitor driveways and properties.

With auto thefts continuing to climb month after month, Peel police stress that community vigilance and preventive steps are crucial to reducing the risk of becoming the next target.
