Peel Region saw a surge in property crimes this past month, with 188 break-and-enter incidents reported across Mississauga and Brampton between Oct. 23 and Nov. 23, according to newly released police data.
Mississauga accounted for 117 of the incidents, while 71 occurred in Brampton. The break-ins targeted a wide range of locations, including 104 houses, eight apartments, 13 residential garages or sheds, three restaurants, four construction sites, two jewellery stores, three schools, eight retail stores, two office spaces, five locations categorized as “other,” and another 36 listed as “unidentified businesses.”
Police say two of the most frequently hit areas were Dundas Street, which saw seven incidents, and Queen Street, with eight reported break-ins.
Of the 188 cases, 15 have been solved, seven are considered unsolved, and 166 remain under active investigation.

Peel police are urging residents to stay vigilant and take steps to secure their homes. Recommended safety measures include keeping hedges trimmed for clear visibility around doors and windows, ensuring garage and screen doors are locked even when home, getting to know neighbours and watching out for each other’s properties, and installing secondary locking devices on windows and sliding doors.
