A 16-year-old from New Tecumseth has been charged with first-degree murder following the discovery of a deceased newborn in a residence in Alliston, Ont., according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The tragic discovery was made on November 21, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., OPP stated in a news release issued Wednesday. In addition to the murder charge, the teenager also faces a charge of indignity to a dead body.
The accused was arrested on Wednesday and is currently in custody. They are scheduled to make a court appearance on Thursday.
Police have withheld further details about the victim, the accused, and the nature of their relationship.
Authorities are appealing to the public for information related to the case. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the OPP directly or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. Tips that lead to valuable information may qualify for a cash reward of up to $2,000, the release noted.
