Green Party Candidate Advocates for Living Wages, Affordable Housing, and Child Care
The Ontario Green Party has officially nominated Ethan Russell as its candidate for Brampton West in the upcoming provincial election on February 27.
Russell, a college student and retail and child care worker, brings a firsthand understanding of economic challenges faced by working-class families.
“Raised in a working-class family, I know struggle firsthand,” he stated on the Green Party’s candidate website. “As a retail and child care worker, I fight for living wages, affordable housing, and child care. I stand with Green Ontario.”
Russell joins a full Green Party slate in Brampton, alongside Nancy Porteous (Brampton East), Pauline Thornham (Brampton Centre), Rajinder Boyal (Brampton South), and Sameera Khan (Brampton North).
Speaking on the housing crisis, Russell emphasized the difficulties students and young professionals face.
“As a young person attending college, I have seen classmates and friends choose to drive for hours just to attend class because housing is simply too expensive,” he said.
While the Green Party has yet to secure a seat in Brampton, it currently holds two in the Ontario Legislature—party leader Mike Schreiner in Guelph and Aislinn Clancy, who won a byelection in Kitchener Centre in 2023.
