Councillor Santos Highlights Historic Investment in Brampton’s Public Safety

In response to growing public safety concerns, Brampton Councillor Rowena Santos conducted a survey among residents in Wards 1 and 5, revealing that public safety is a top priority for the community. Reflecting this sentiment, the 2025 Regional Council budget includes a significant investment to hire 300 new police officers, aiming to align police staffing levels with other municipalities and enhance the region’s capacity to address complex safety challenges, including intimate partner and gender-based violence.

Councillor Santos emphasized the city’s historical underfunding and the necessity of this investment, stating, “Brampton is now the second-largest population in the GTHA, but for decades has been chronically underfunded by other orders of government, putting community safety at risk.” She added that this initiative is crucial to ensure timely responses to incidents, particularly in cases of intimate partner violence.

The approved 2025 budget reflects a comprehensive approach to public safety, balancing the needs of residents and businesses while addressing critical community concerns.
