The City of Brampton is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2025 Backyard Garden Program. This revamped initiative empowers residents to grow their own produce, build stronger gardening skills, and contribute to the community by donating surplus harvests to local food banks.
New this year, participants are required to attend an in-person workshop led by experienced gardeners from the Brampton Horticultural Society. These interactive sessions, scheduled throughout March, will provide hands-on knowledge on planting, caring for, and harvesting a backyard garden. The workshops aim to equip participants with the skills and confidence needed to start their gardening journey in time for the growing season.
“The Backyard Garden Program is back for the 2025 growing season and better than ever,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “With support from our dedicated sponsors and partners, participants will have a chance to grow their gardening skills, cultivate fresh produce, and build meaningful community connections. This program underscores the City’s commitment to sustainability and food security for all residents.”
Residents must sign up for and attend one of the in-person workshops held at Century Gardens Recreation Centre in Community Room 2 on Saturdays, March 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 9 to 11 am. Attendance is mandatory to receive gardening supplies, including five bags of soil and a sampler seed pack with lettuce, beans, and carrot seeds. Generously sponsored by Scotts Canada, Fieldgate Developments, Mattamy Homes, and Paradise Developments, the Backyard Garden Program encourages residents to grow their own fruits and vegetables, improving their well-being and helping combat food insecurity. Participants are encouraged to donate excess produce to local food banks and community organizations.
Gardening enthusiasts can also join the Backyard Garden Club to receive a monthly e-newsletter with expert advice, exclusive offers, and resources. Sign up at brampton.ca/backyardgarden.
