A routine traffic stop in Guelph escalated into a drug trafficking case after officers discovered cocaine, prescription pills, and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle linked to a suspended driver, police say.
The incident occurred on Sunday when Guelph Police Service officers pulled over a car on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue. The vehicle had been flagged for being registered to a suspended driver, prompting officers to investigate further.
Upon approaching the car, police observed a white substance and glass pipes in plain view, leading them to detain the driver. A subsequent search uncovered an undisclosed quantity of suspected cocaine, Percocet pills, four cellphones, a digital scale, drug-related paraphernalia, and over $1,000 in cash.
A 40-year-old man from Caledon has since been charged with:
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Obstructing police
The accused was held for a bail hearing on Monday. Police have not released his name.
