Mississauga to Host Canadian Women’s Curling Championship in 2026

Mississauga, Ont., will welcome the Scotties Tournament of Hearts for the first time in 2026, marking a historic moment for the city and Canadian curling. The annual championship, one of Canada’s most prestigious curling events, will be held at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sportsplex, Curling Canada announced Tuesday.

The 2026 tournament will be the first time the Canadian women’s curling championship is hosted in Mississauga. The event is scheduled to run from January 23 to February 1, 2026, a few weeks earlier than usual to accommodate the Milan Olympics in February.

Curling Canada’s CEO, Nolan Thiessen, highlighted the significance of this milestone:

“With an event as iconic and historic as the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, it is getting rarer to have true firsts, so we’re excited to bring this event to Mississauga for the first time. The energy and enthusiasm of Mississauga and the GTA will make this a truly memorable occasion.”

The Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sportsplex, a 5,000-seat venue, is well-equipped to host the 10-day event. Located near Pearson International Airport and 20 kilometers from downtown Toronto, the arena is home to the Raptors 905 of the NBA G League and the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League.

  • Olympic Year Adjustment: Due to the Milan Olympics, the Canadian women’s team representing the country at the Olympics will not be eligible to compete in the 2026 Scotties.
  • 2025 Scotties in Thunder Bay: The 2025 Scotties will take place in Thunder Bay, Ont., starting February 14. The winner of that competition will skip the Canadian team at the 2026 playdowns.

Curling Ontario’s Executive Director, Matt Allen, expressed excitement about hosting the event in Mississauga:

“Having the Scotties Tournament of Hearts come to Mississauga is an incredible opportunity for our curling community. Heading into an Olympic year, this event builds enormous excitement, and we’re confident the host committee will deliver a spectacular experience for everyone.”

The last time the Scotties was held in the region was in 2017, when St. Catharines, Ont., hosted the event. That year, Ottawa’s Rachel Homan secured the second of her four career Scotties titles.

As Mississauga prepares to host this iconic championship, the city is poised to create a vibrant and energetic environment for curling fans. With its rich history and connection to the Canadian sporting calendar, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts will not only celebrate athletic excellence but also inspire the next generation of curlers in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
