A solemn ceremony in Brampton will see over a dozen names added to the Ontario Memorial Monument, honoring victims of impaired driving. The MADD Canada Ontario Memorial Monument, located in Chinguacousy Park, pays tribute to those killed in crashes involving alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs, with over 150 names already engraved.
This weekend, 22 new names will be added during a candlelight vigil, offering families and friends a place to remember and support each other. Established last year, the monument serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of impaired driving and the importance of sober driving.
The Ontario monument is part of a series across Canada, including memorials in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Quebec, with others planned for B.C. and Prince Edward Island. MADD Canada says the monuments highlight the fatal consequences of impaired driving.
The design of the Ontario Memorial Monument is symbolic, featuring a guardrail held by wooden slabs, where victims’ names are engraved. MADD Canada describes the guardrail as a representation of how memories of victims are protected and cherished.
The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. this Saturday at Chinguacousy Park in Brampton.
