Graham McGregor MPP and Peel Police Partner with TAPA to Combat Cargo Theft

In a significant move to tackle the increasing issue of cargo theft in Ontario, Graham McGregor, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Brampton North and Ontario’s Associate Minister of Auto Theft and Bail Reform, attended the inaugural Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Canada meeting. Held in partnership with Peel Regional Police, the meeting was a collaborative effort to address the growing challenges of auto and cargo theft that have been affecting both the local community and broader cross-border trade.

The TAPA Canada meeting underscored the importance of multi-sector cooperation, bringing together law enforcement, industry stakeholders, and security experts. In his address, MPP McGregor emphasized Ontario’s commitment to cracking down on criminal networks responsible for cargo theft. Peel Regional Police, a key partner in this initiative, has been actively working on strategies to prevent stolen vehicles and goods from being smuggled across borders.

This partnership is expected to bolster Ontario’s efforts in reducing these theft-related crimes through advanced technology, enhanced policing, and legislative reforms aimed at protecting both businesses and consumers.

“Cargo theft affects not only our local businesses but also contributes to a larger network of criminal activity,” said McGregor. “With this initiative, we aim to safeguard Ontario’s supply chains and ensure that our roads and communities are safer.”

Peel Regional Police echoed similar sentiments, reiterating their commitment to working closely with organizations like TAPA and government officials to protect vital assets and prevent organized crime from profiting off of stolen goods.

This first TAPA Canada meeting marks a proactive step in strengthening security measures and reinforcing Ontario’s position as a leader in tackling theft-related crime.
