Brampton Shines Again: Ranked Among Canada’s Top 20 Investment Destinations for the Fourth Year

The City of Brampton continues its impressive streak as a leading investment hub, earning a spot on Site Selection Magazine’s list of Canada’s top 20 locations to invest for the fourth consecutive year. Competing on an international stage, Brampton’s sustained economic growth and strategic positioning have cemented its reputation as a prime destination for business expansion and investment.

“Being named one of Canada’s top investment destinations for four consecutive years is a reflection of Brampton’s strategic advantages and commitment to fostering a thriving business community. We’re proud to offer an environment where businesses can succeed, and we remain focused on supporting their growth,” said Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton. “We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to attract more investments to our city.”

Brampton’s success is largely attributed to its central location in Canada’s Innovation Corridor, coupled with its skilled and diverse workforce. The city has focused on key sectors—innovation and technology, advanced manufacturing, food and beverage processing, and health and life sciences—to attract new businesses and stimulate job creation.

“Our city’s economic development strategy is paying off. By investing in the right sectors and nurturing a talented workforce, we’re making Brampton a top choice for businesses. This recognition from Site Selection Magazine shows that our efforts are creating a brighter future for our city,” added Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5.

Recent Investments Strengthen Brampton’s Growth

Brampton’s continued growth is exemplified by significant recent investments, including:

  • Stellantis, a global automotive giant, opened a $25 million, 500,000 sq. ft. distribution hub to serve 300 dealers and customers across Eastern Canada.
  • Lululemon, a leader in athleisure, is building its largest North American distribution facility in Brampton, creating 1,500 jobs.
  • Axium Packaging Inc. has committed over $80 million for a new plastics manufacturing plant, set to provide 250 new jobs.
  • Handi Foods, one of North America’s top producers of private label pita chips, invested $25 million into their first Brampton facility, which will employ 175 people.
  • Alectra Utilities launched a LEED-certified Operations Centre, employing 400 people.

“Brampton’s continued growth is a testament to the strong foundation we’ve built. The city’s location, workforce, and commitment to innovation are key factors in attracting high-quality investments,” said Paul Vicente, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5. “We’re excited about the economic opportunities on the horizon and are committed to ensuring a business-friendly environment.”

These investments, along with Brampton’s targeted financial incentives for employers and developers, contribute to the city’s growing reputation. Incentives include the recently approved Development Charges (DC) bylaw and the city-wide Community Improvement Plan (CIP), both aimed at fostering office employment and complementary developments within key sectors.

“This recognition underscores the hard work of our Economic Development Office and the strength of collaboration in our community. Brampton’s focus on driving investment in technology, manufacturing, and health sciences is creating new jobs and opportunities,” said Gurpartap Singh Toor, Regional Councillor, Wards 9 & 10 and Chair of Economic Development.

The CIP offers a 10-year Tax Increment Equivalent Grant (TIEG), reducing property taxes for office developments, while the DC bylaw provides exemptions from the City’s DCs for office projects, whether freestanding or part of mixed-use developments.

Site Selection Magazine bases its top 20 list on corporate facility projects, capital investments, and job creation statistics from April 2023 to March 2024. The full rankings and additional information can be found on the magazine’s website.

Brampton’s Economic Development Office (EDO) continues to shine, having been recognized as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO), a designation held by only 70 economic development offices worldwide. This accreditation underscores the EDO’s professionalism and dedication to creating a business-friendly environment.
