Labour Day marks a statutory holiday, meaning many government offices and businesses will be closed. However, some locations will remain open, so it’s advisable to check ahead before making any plans.
Mississauga:
- Open: Square One Shopping Centre will be open, offering a shopping option for those in the area.
- Closed: All non-emergency federal, provincial, and municipal offices, including City Hall, Region of Peel offices, banks, libraries, and some community centres. Canada Post will not be operating, and there will be no mail pick-up or delivery. Waste collection will be delayed by one day, and Community Recycling Centres will also be closed.
- Transit: MiWay will operate on a regular Sunday schedule, and GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule.
Brampton:
- Closed: All non-emergency government offices at federal, provincial, and municipal levels, including City Hall and Region of Peel offices. Services like Access Peel counters, the Dental Services Contact Centre, early years and child care services, Ontario Works in Peel, and various health services will not operate. Banks, libraries, and some community centres will also be closed. Canada Post services will be suspended, and waste collection will be postponed by one day. Community Recycling Centres will be closed.
- Transit: Brampton Transit and Zum will follow a Sunday/holiday schedule, and GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule.
Halton Region (Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills):
- Closed: Banks, city/town halls, non-emergency federal and provincial offices, and non-emergency Halton Region offices. Most community centres, seniors’ centres, pools, arenas, libraries, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Mattamy National Cycling Centre will also be closed. Waste collection will be delayed by one day, and Canada Post will not operate.
- Transit: Oakville Transit will run on a holiday service schedule, Burlington Transit on a Sunday schedule, and Milton Transit will not operate. GO Transit will follow a Saturday schedule.
Durham Region (Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Clarington, Uxbridge, Brock, Scugog):
- Closed: Non-emergency government offices, including city and town halls, banks, post offices, libraries, waste transfer stations, and most community centres. Waste collection will be delayed by one day. Major shopping centres like Pickering Town Centre, Whitby Mall, and Oshawa Centre will be closed.
- Transit: Durham Transit and PULSE buses will run on a holiday/weekend schedule, and GO Transit will follow a Saturday schedule.
Niagara Region:
- Open: Most businesses in popular tourist destinations like Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake will remain open, as they typically do on federal and provincial holidays.
- Closed: Most businesses in other municipalities, including St. Catharines and Welland, will be closed. Non-emergency government offices, including city and town halls, will be closed. Waste collection will be delayed by one day.
- Transit: GO Transit will operate on a holiday schedule, and local transit services will run on holiday hours.
Hamilton:
- Closed: All non-emergency federal, provincial, and municipal offices, including City Hall, banks, recreation centres, arenas, Canada Post (no mail pick-up or delivery), and libraries. Waste collection will be delayed by one day.
- Transit: DARTS will run on holiday service hours, HSR on a Sunday schedule, and GO Transit on a Saturday schedule.
Toronto:
- Open: Most tourist attractions will be open.
- Closed: Non-emergency federal, provincial, and municipal services, including City Hall, banks, libraries, and Canada Post (no mail pick-up or delivery).
- Transit: The TTC will operate on holiday service hours, and GO Transit will follow a Saturday schedule.
