SpaceX chief Elon Musk said Wednesday that responsibility for any reported restrictions affecting Ukraine’s Starshield satellite communications rests with the U.S. government rather than his company.
Responding to reports of disruptions, Musk said American authorities own and control the Starshield systems. Decisions about connection speeds and usage limits, he added, are made by the U.S. military, with ultimate authority resting with President Donald Trump.
His remarks attributed responsibility for any restrictions to Washington but did not establish what had caused the reported difficulties.
Musk also distinguished Starshield, used by Ukraine for battlefield communications, from SpaceX’s civilian Starlink service. Ukraine uses both systems, although the report noted that Starlink is not authorized for offensive operations.
