Hockey stars, legendary players and thousands of fans packed Brampton’s CAA Centre for Hockey Night in Brampton 2026, raising an impressive $2.525 million to support William Osler Health System Foundation and the development of Brampton’s second hospital.
The latest fundraising success brings the event’s cumulative donations and pledges to nearly $80 million over five years, making Hockey Night in Brampton a major contributor to efforts to expand health-care capacity in one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities.
The charity game featured Team Messier, coached by Gary Roberts and Coach Chippy, against Team Rielly, coached by hockey legends Wendel Clark and Paul Coffey. The combination of current stars, rising talent and some of hockey’s most recognizable former players turned the evening into both a major sporting attraction and an important community fundraiser.
This year’s lineup included Dylan Strome, Owen Power, Peter Holland, Michael Misa, Pavel Mintyukov and Stephen Halliday, along with veteran and retired stars Mark Giordano, Nikolai Borschevsky, Kirk Muller, Curtis Joseph, Ryan Getzlaf, Joe Kocur, Kris Versteeg and Cody Hodgson.
PWHL stars Emily Clark and Jaime Bourbonnais also participated, adding to a lineup that brought together players representing different generations of Canadian hockey.
The celebration extended beyond the game itself. Fans had opportunities to meet hockey legends during two pre-game autograph sessions featuring Paul Coffey, Ryan Getzlaf, Joe Kocur, Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour and Gary Roberts.
During the intermission, Canadian national athlete and renowned stickhandling specialist Pavel Barber entertained the crowd with a live skills challenge. Veteran Canadian sports broadcaster Rod Black returned to host the event.
The central purpose of the evening, however, remained the campaign to strengthen health care in Brampton and support the transformation of Peel Memorial into the city’s second hospital.
Mayor Patrick Brown praised the generosity of residents, sponsors, donors, players and volunteers, saying the $2.5-million result demonstrated what Brampton can accomplish when the community unites behind a common goal.
Brown also thanked team captains Mark Messier and Morgan Rielly and the many hockey personalities who helped attract thousands of spectators while raising awareness and financial support for the hospital project.
William Osler Health System President and CEO Dr. Frank Martino described the event as a celebration of Brampton’s generosity and community spirit. He said Hockey Night has played a significant role in building support for the new Peel Memorial Hospital and helping create a healthier future for the community.
William Osler Health System Foundation Interim President and CEO Shelagh Barry said the success of the event demonstrates the commitment of Brampton residents and supporters to turning the vision of a second hospital into reality.
The fundraising achievement was made possible through the support of numerous corporate sponsors and community partners, including 407 ETR as the official Meet and Greet Sponsor. Changemaker sponsors included Argo Development Corp., Capital Power, Charger Logistics, DG Group, LiUNA, Argo Transit and Paradise Developments, with several additional companies supporting the event as general sponsors.
Launched in 2019, Hockey Night in Brampton has grown into what organizers describe as Canada’s largest charity hockey game. The annual event brings together NHL players, alumni and hockey legends while raising funds for William Osler Health System and the transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital.
Its impact has grown considerably beyond a single night of hockey. With nearly $80 million now raised through donations and pledges over five years, the event has become a powerful community fundraising platform for one of Brampton’s most important health-care projects.
For a city of approximately 800,000 residents that continues to experience rapid population growth, expanding health-care infrastructure remains a major priority.
Hockey Night in Brampton has shown how sports, business and community spirit can come together around that goal. This year’s $2.525-million fundraising total adds another significant contribution toward bringing Brampton’s long-awaited second hospital closer to reality.
