Ottawa and Quebec Reach Landmark $10 Billion Infrastructure Funding Agreement

Federal Investment to Support Public Transit, Health Care, Education and Sustainable Infrastructure Across Quebec

LONGUEUIL, QUE. – The federal government and the Government of Quebec have reached a major infrastructure funding agreement that will see nearly $10 billion invested in the province over the next decade to support public transit, health care facilities, higher education and sustainable transportation initiatives.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette jointly announced the agreement, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening communities, improving public services and supporting long-term economic growth throughout Quebec.

Under the agreement, Quebec will receive nearly $6 billion through the federal public transit infrastructure program, providing funding for major transportation projects and helping municipalities improve mobility and connectivity for residents.

The funding package will also support hospital modernization and expansion projects, investments in higher education infrastructure, and initiatives aimed at accelerating the electrification of public transit systems across the province.

Federal and provincial leaders emphasized that the investment will help communities build more reliable and sustainable infrastructure while improving access to essential services and supporting future population growth.

Premier Fréchette welcomed the agreement, noting that the funding will allow Quebec to move forward with several important infrastructure priorities, including public transit expansion and major health care projects.

Among the projects expected to benefit from the funding are improvements to hospitals, investments in universities and colleges, and support for large-scale transit initiatives, including efforts to expand sustainable transportation networks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The agreement also includes dedicated funding to help municipalities modernize aging infrastructure and meet the growing needs of residents in both urban and regional communities.

Prime Minister Carney stated that the investment reflects a commitment to building stronger, healthier and more connected communities while supporting economic development and job creation across Quebec.

Government officials say the long-term funding certainty will allow Quebec to plan and deliver major infrastructure projects more efficiently while helping ensure that communities have the resources needed to support future growth and prosperity.

The announcement represents one of the largest recent federal infrastructure commitments to Quebec and is expected to generate significant economic activity while improving public services and quality of life for residents across the province.
