Peel to Host Supportive Housing Summit for Abuse Survivors in Brampton

The Region of Peel will host a major summit on June 19 focused on improving supportive housing options for survivors of abuse and gender-based violence.

Called the Break the Cycle Housing Summit, the event will take place at Toronto Metropolitan University and will examine how housing access can play a critical role in helping survivors rebuild their lives safely.

Organizers say safe, affordable and stable housing is often the most urgent need for women and families escaping violence. Without housing security, recovery, health supports and long-term stability become much harder to achieve.

The summit is being organized through a partnership involving Peel Region, Armagh (Peel’s transitional supportive housing program), TMU and several frontline agencies, including Safe Centre of Peel, EMBRAVE and Catholic Family Services.

The one-day event aims to identify key barriers survivors face when trying to secure housing, create stronger pathways to support women and families fleeing violence, and develop a coordinated regional response.

The initiative also supports broader local strategies already in place, including Peel’s housing and homelessness plans and anti-human trafficking efforts.

The summit is invitation only, but residents seeking more information can contact Peel Region through cswb@peelregion.ca.
