A young person is facing multiple charges after an alleged unprovoked assault targeting an elderly pedestrian near a school in Woodstock.
Police say officers were called to the area of Turtle Island School on Knights Lane at approximately 11:35 a.m. on April 22 following reports of a disturbance.
Investigators allege a youth approached a senior who was walking along the sidewalk and assaulted the victim without provocation. During the incident, the suspect allegedly directed racist remarks and obscenities at the victim, leading police to treat the matter as a hate-motivated occurrence.
Authorities said the victim did not suffer physical injuries.
After the incident, the youth allegedly jumped a fence onto school property before leaving the area. Police confirmed no students were harmed and there was no threat to the school community.
As a result of the investigation, the accused young person has been charged with:
- Assault
- Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Criminal Harassment – Threatening Conduct
The accused was held for a bail hearing. Police have not released the identity of the youth under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
