U.S. Driver Charged With Stunt Driving After 152 km/h Stop on Highway 401

A driver from the United States is facing stunt driving charges after being stopped on Highway 401 in Oxford County.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the incident happened on April 18 when officers allegedly clocked the vehicle travelling at 152 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.

Police say the accused motorist was driving a business vehicle and was unable to continue the trip after the traffic stop, forcing alternate travel arrangements to get home.

Under Ontario law, stunt driving carries immediate roadside penalties that can include:

  • 14-day vehicle impoundment
  • 30-day driver’s licence suspension
  • Significant fines
  • Potential court penalties and insurance consequences

Police emphasized that enforcement applies equally to all drivers, regardless of where they are from.

Officials warned that excessive speed puts everyone at risk and said the financial and legal consequences far outweigh any time saved on the road.

The case serves as another reminder that traffic laws in Ontario apply to residents, visitors, and commercial drivers alike — especially on one of North America’s busiest highways.
