More than 1,600 assault-related incidents have been reported to police in Brampton and Mississauga since the beginning of 2026, highlighting the continued pressure on community safety across Peel Region.
According to data from Peel Regional Police, a total of 1,620 assaults were reported between Jan. 1 and April 19. Of those, 832 occurred in Brampton and 785 in Mississauga. Three additional incidents fell under Peel police jurisdiction but took place in neighbouring municipalities.
The figures mean an average of more than 13 assault-related incidents were reported each day across the two cities during the first months of the year.
Police data also identified several roads and areas with the highest concentration of reported incidents. Among the busiest locations were Dundas Street, Kennedy Road, Queen Street, Airport Road, Goreway Drive and Lakeshore Road.
Authorities noted that the public data does not specify the exact nature of each assault case or the severity of injuries involved. Assault-related offences can range from minor altercations to more serious incidents, depending on the circumstances.
Investigators have cleared 1,083 of the reported cases, while 246 remain under investigation and 291 are currently unsolved.
Recent cases in the region have included allegations of sexual assault, incidents involving serious injuries and police investigations in parks and public areas. While each case carries different circumstances, the overall numbers reflect the importance of prevention, awareness and timely reporting.
Police continue to encourage residents to take everyday safety precautions, including staying in well-lit areas, travelling with others when possible, securing vehicles, remaining aware of surroundings and contacting authorities immediately if they feel threatened or witness suspicious behaviour.
The statistics serve as a reminder that public safety remains a shared responsibility involving law enforcement, community organizations and residents working together to build safer neighbourhoods.
