The head of Peel Regional Police, serving Brampton and Mississauga, was the highest-paid police chief in Ontario in 2025 by a wide margin, according to the province’s latest Sunshine List.
Chief Nishan Duraiappah received a salary of $604,449.04, along with $7,229.42 in taxable benefits. That placed him nearly $150,000 ahead of the next highest-paid police chief in the province.
According to the Peel Police Services Board, the total included one-time payments for unused vacation time from both 2024 and 2025, as well as an additional pay period. The board stated that his regular base salary is approximately $490,000, which it says reflects the scale and complexity of policing in Peel Region.

Outside policing, Gary Kent was the highest-paid Region of Peel employee, earning $581,808 in salary plus benefits.
Regional Chair Nando Iannicca earned $278,203 in salary, while Patrick Brown and Carolyn Parrish were each listed with salaries in the mid-$150,000 range, plus additional compensation for their regional council roles.
