Jupiter Island, Florida — Renowned professional golfer Tiger Woods was released on bail late Friday, hours after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a vehicle crash near his residence in Jupiter Island.
According to local authorities, the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. when Woods was driving his Land Rover on a residential road. Police allege that he was travelling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass a truck towing equipment. During the maneuver, his vehicle clipped the rear of the trailer, causing it to lose control and roll onto its side. Woods managed to exit the vehicle on his own and did not sustain any injuries.
Investigators at the scene reported observing signs of impairment, describing Woods as lethargic. A breathalyzer test conducted at the time did not detect the presence of alcohol. However, Woods declined to undergo a urine test, which led to his arrest under Florida law. He was held in custody for the mandatory minimum period before being released on bail later that evening.
Authorities indicated that impairment may have been linked to medication or another substance, although no definitive confirmation has been made. The investigation remains ongoing.
This incident marks the second time Woods has faced a DUI-related arrest not involving alcohol. In 2017, he was found asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving, attributing the situation to a combination of prescription medications.
The latest development comes at a critical time in Woods’ career. The 50-year-old golfer has been working toward a return to competitive play following a series of injuries, including a major car crash in 2021, an Achilles tendon rupture in 2025, and multiple back surgeries. He was reportedly considering participation in the upcoming The Masters Tournament scheduled to begin April 9, and was also expected to attend a golf course unveiling event in Augusta in early April. Additionally, Woods has been linked to a potential leadership role as captain for the U.S. team in the 2027 Ryder Cup.
U.S. President Donald Trump, a longtime acquaintance of Woods, expressed concern following the news, describing him as “an amazing person” while acknowledging that he is currently facing challenges.
Woods has not issued a public statement regarding the incident, and his management team has yet to respond to media inquiries. As legal proceedings unfold, the situation is expected to draw significant attention given Woods’ global stature and ongoing involvement in professional golf.
