Construction on what will become Canada’s tallest mixed-use building has reached a major milestone in downtown Toronto.
Developers behind Pinnacle SkyTower announced that construction has now reached the top floor of the 106-storey skyscraper, marking a significant step toward the project’s completion later this year.
The tower is rising as part of the larger Pinnacle One Yonge project near the intersection of Yonge Street and Lakeshore Boulevard in Toronto’s waterfront district.
Once completed, the building will stand 351.85 metres (1,154 feet) tall, making it the tallest residential tower in Canada.
For comparison, the nearby CN Tower remains the tallest free-standing structure in the country at 553.3 metres (1,815 feet). The highest residential level of the SkyTower will align roughly with the CN Tower’s main observation level.
The skyscraper will include 958 residential units, along with the Le Méridien Toronto Pinnacle Hotel, which will occupy the lower 12 floors and feature 220 rooms.
The development will also offer 80,000 square feet of amenity space, including a swimming pool, yoga studio, fitness centre and entertainment areas. Plans also include a restaurant on the tower’s top floor.
Anson Kwok, vice-president of sales and marketing at Pinnacle International, said reaching the top floor marks an exciting moment for the project.
“Now that we’ve reached the 106-storey mark, you can really feel the momentum accelerating,” Kwok said in a statement.
Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the building features a distinctive 12-sided tapered design with an aerodynamic profile, intended to reduce wind impact while enhancing the tower’s skyline presence.
The SkyTower is part of a broader 4.4-million-square-foot waterfront development that will ultimately span two city blocks.
When the full Pinnacle One Yonge project is completed, it is expected to include approximately 5,000 residential units, along with retail spaces, a hotel and outdoor public amenities, including some affordable rental housing.
