A 23-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple drug and criminal charges after police allegedly seized a large quantity of illicit drugs following a hit-and-run collision in Mississauga earlier this month.
The incident occurred late on January 11 at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive, just north of Central Parkway. Police were called to the scene shortly before 11 p.m. following reports of a collision involving a black Hyundai Elantra and a black Range Rover Evoque.
According to investigators, witnesses reported that the driver of the Range Rover fled the scene on foot. Police air support quickly tracked the suspect in the surrounding area and observed him discarding several bags while attempting to evade officers.
With assistance from police canine units and investigators, officers arrested the suspect after a brief foot pursuit. The discarded bags were later found to contain large quantities of drugs believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $200,000.
Police say that while the suspect was in custody, a search warrant was executed at his Mississauga residence, where additional quantities of methamphetamine and cash were seized.
The accused, identified as Nitin Malik of Brampton, has been charged with failure to stop after an accident, failing to comply with a release order, and multiple counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and opioids.
The charges have not been proven in court, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information related to the case to come forward or contact authorities anonymously.
