Metro Supply Chain to Open Automated Distribution Centre in Brampton, Promising ‘High-Quality Jobs’

Metro Supply Chain is preparing to open a new 230,000-square-foot automated distribution centre in Brampton this spring, a move city officials say will strengthen the local economy and create high-quality jobs.

The facility will feature a state-of-the-art robotic inventory retrieval system similar to the one the company launched in Bolton in 2022. While Metro Supply Chain has not disclosed the exact location or expected workforce size, a spokesperson said employee numbers will vary depending on seasonal demand.

The company first announced the project in July, noting that automation and racking installation were scheduled to begin in fall 2025. Chris Fenton, the company’s president and CEO, said the new centre reflects Metro Supply Chain’s focus on digital innovation, improved service flexibility and long-term sustainable growth.

City councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor, chair of Brampton’s economic development committee, called the project a significant investment for the city. He said the expansion reinforces Brampton’s role as a leader in logistics and automation and aligns with the city’s strategy of supporting business retention and expansion.

Toor said the project did not qualify for Brampton’s financial incentives for office development, but the city’s economic development team provided support services, including site selection assistance and sector-specific guidance for the logistics industry.

Metro Supply Chain said the new facility will enhance its ability to deliver faster and more flexible fulfillment services for retail and e-commerce clients across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, positioning the company at the forefront of supply chain automation.
