Trump Posts AI Image Showing Greenland and Canada Under U.S. Flag as Takeover Rhetoric Escalates

U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited controversy over Greenland by sharing an AI-generated image depicting Greenland and Canada under the American flag, as he travels to Switzerland for the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Trump posted the image on his social media platform, Truth Social, early Tuesday, alongside other posts focused on Greenland. One image showed Trump meeting European leaders in the Oval Office, while another featured a map of the Western Hemisphere with U.S. flags placed over Greenland, Canada, Cuba and Venezuela.

The posts come as Trump continues to float the idea of the United States taking control of Greenland, a Danish self-governing territory. His rhetoric has drawn sharp criticism in Europe. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on European countries opposing a Greenland takeover was “a mistake” and raised questions about U.S. credibility, given earlier assurances that no new tariffs would be imposed on the European Union.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday that he is “concerned” by the escalating U.S. rhetoric and would raise the issue directly with Trump if the two meet in Davos. Carney is also scheduled to speak at the World Economic Forum.

Trump is expected to address global leaders at the forum on Wednesday, where trade tensions and geopolitical stability are among the key topics on the agenda.
