Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day Festival to Return in 2026 with Focus on Healing and Remembrance

VANCOUVER — The Lapu Lapu Day Festival will return to Vancouver in April 2026, nearly one year after the tragic attack that claimed 11 lives and injured dozens during last year’s celebration. Organizers say this year’s event will place a strong emphasis on healing, remembrance and community unity, alongside cultural pride.

Filipino BC, the group behind the annual festival, announced that planning for the 2026 event is being guided by the community’s shared grief. The festival will include at least one memorial gathering and moments of reflection to honour those who lost their lives and those affected by the tragedy.

Organizers confirmed they are working closely with the Vancouver, the Province of British Columbia, and first responders to ensure enhanced safety measures are in place, reaffirming their commitment to hosting the event in a safe and respectful environment.

RJ Aquino, chair of Filipino BC, said the festival remains a vital cultural celebration, but one that now carries deeper meaning.

“As we look ahead, we centre community healing and remembrance alongside cultural pride. This festival is a way to come together safely, to hold space for grief, and to reaffirm our commitment to one another through culture, connection, and collective care,” Aquino said.

The 2026 Lapu Lapu Day Festival is scheduled for the weekend of April 17 to 19, intentionally set one week before the anniversary of the attack to allow dedicated time for memorial events and reflection closer to the date.

Filipino BC noted it continues to engage with community members to ensure the event is shaped with care, inclusivity and sensitivity. Full program details will be released in the coming weeks.
