Terror Strikes Old Delhi: Blast Near Red Fort Kills 13, Injures Dozens

New Delhi, November 10, 2025 — Thirteen people were killed and twenty-four others injured when a high-intensity explosion tore through a car near the historic Red Fort on Monday evening, sending shockwaves across the capital and prompting a nationwide security alert. The blast occurred at 6:52 p.m. near the Red Fort Metro Station, one of Delhi’s busiest intersections, as the vehicle halted at a traffic signal.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of devastation, with flames engulfing nearby cars and debris scattered across the road. “It was a very powerful explosion,” a senior Delhi Police official said. The blast originated from a Hyundai i20 bearing a Haryana registration number and registered to an individual identified as Nadeem. The impact damaged at least nine vehicles, leaving mangled wreckage and severely injured passengers.

According to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, the explosion occurred in a slow-moving vehicle carrying multiple occupants. Emergency services rushed to the scene within minutes. “We responded immediately, and seven fire units were sent to the spot. By 7:29 p.m., the fire was brought under control,” said Deputy Chief Fire Officer A.K. Malik.

Disturbing visuals from the site showed burnt-out vehicles, scattered body parts, and panicked crowds. Ambulances transported the injured to Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP), where authorities said several victims are in critical condition. Families gathered anxiously outside the emergency ward, seeking information about their loved ones.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) have taken over the probe, working alongside the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams. The explosion has triggered a high alert across multiple states, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, while security has been intensified in Kerala and Bihar, which heads to polls tomorrow.

Sources confirmed that earlier in the day, authorities recovered 2,900 kilograms of explosives from a warehouse in Faridabad, approximately 50 kilometers from Delhi, raising concerns of a possible link between the two incidents.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been briefed by Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited the blast site and later met with victims at LNJP Hospital. Shah assured the public of a comprehensive investigation. “Within 10 minutes of the explosion, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch, Special Branch, NIA, and NSG arrived at the spot. We are examining CCTV footage and exploring all possible leads,” he said.

Witnesses reported hearing a deafening noise followed by a massive fireball. “The car in front of me exploded suddenly. I was thrown off my auto,” said Zeeshan, a local driver who sustained injuries. Another resident recalled, “The blast shook the windows of nearby buildings. I saw flames rising from the road.”

The 17th-century Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India’s most iconic landmarks, attracts thousands of visitors daily. Monday’s explosion, just meters away from its perimeter, has reignited fears of terrorism in the capital.

Security has been tightened around key installations, airports, railway stations, and metro networks across the country as investigators work to determine the source and motive of the attack.
