G2 Driver From Cambridge Charged, Licence Suspended After Speeding 142 km/h on Highway 401 in Scarborough

TORONTO — Ontario Provincial Police say a 24-year-old G2 driver from Cambridge has been charged after being caught driving 142 km/h in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Morningside Avenue early Sunday morning.

According to OPP, officers stopped the vehicle around 1:30 a.m., where the driver was subjected to a roadside breath test on an approved screening device. The result came back as an “alert,” indicating the presence of alcohol in the system of a novice driver, who is required by law to maintain a zero blood-alcohol concentration while operating a vehicle.

The driver was charged with speeding and novice driver blood-alcohol concentration above zero, police confirmed . As a result, the individual’s licence was immediately suspended for three days.

The OPP are reminding all motorists to obey posted speed limits and never drive impaired. “Slow down and drive sober,” officials emphasized, noting that enforcement remains a top priority across provincial highways as part of ongoing efforts to reduce serious collisions.
