City of Brampton Launches First-Ever Community Safety Month to Empower Residents and Strengthen Neighbourhoods

BRAMPTON— The City of Brampton has officially proclaimed November 2025 as its first-ever Community Safety Month, aligning with Canada’s national Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month recognized by the Canada Safety Council and Ontario’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month Act (2024).

The initiative aims to connect residents with tools, resources, and opportunities to foster a safer, stronger, and more connected Brampton, reinforcing the city’s commitment to community well-being as one of Canada’s fastest-growing municipalities.

🔒 Focus on Community Engagement and Empowerment

Throughout November, Brampton residents can participate in free events, workshops, and activities to learn about safety practices and community programs.

Key highlights include:

  • Community Safety Pop-up Displays (Nov 2–28): City staff will visit recreation centres, libraries, places of worship, and shopping malls to share safety resources and assist residents in completing the Community Safety Survey.
  • Neighbourhood Association Meet, Mingle & Workshop (Nov 13, 6–9 PM) at Brampton City Hall Conservatory: A networking and learning session for local neighbourhood leaders and residents interested in forming new associations in 2026.
  • Community Safety Advisory Committee Meeting (Dec 11, 7 PM) at Susan Fennell Sportsplex, focusing on local safety issues in Wards 3 and 4.

Residents are also encouraged to complete the Community Safety Survey online, which will help shape the next Community Safety Action Plan by identifying local needs and priorities.

New Tools and Resources

  • Hello Neighbour: A Guide to Safer Homes and Community — a new home and property safety guide offering Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategies. Available online and at pop-up locations.
  • Connected Communities Newsletter — a new quarterly update from the Community Safety and Well-Being Office (CSWO) highlighting safety programs, events, and community initiatives.

Safety Awareness Initiatives

  • Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week (Nov 1–7) — educating residents about CO poisoning prevention and new Ontario Fire Code updates (effective Jan 1, 2026), requiring CO alarms beside all sleeping areas and on each storey.
  • Encampment Response Policy — Brampton’s Encampment Response Team (ERT) coordinates with regional and local partners to support individuals experiencing homelessness while ensuring safe and accessible public spaces. Reports can be made via 311, the Brampton 311 App, or Peel Outreach (1-877-848-8481).

Brampton’s Community Safety Action Plan (2022–2027)

The city’s five-year plan outlines 24 action tactics across three pillars — safety, awareness, and empowerment — developed through engagement with more than 1,800 residents. The plan focuses on prevention, connection, and community-led collaboration, ensuring Brampton remains responsive to evolving safety needs.
