Gang Members Claim Attack on Punjabi Singer in Canada, Issue Threats to Rivals

Men who identify with the Rohit Godara gang are claiming responsibility for a shooting that injured Punjabi singer Teji Kahlon in Canada and have posted an explicit warning to rivals and anyone who helps them. In a social media statement, people named as Mahender Saran Dilana, Rahul Rinau, and Vicky Phalwan said Kahlon was shot in the stomach and accused him of supplying money and weapons to opposing gangs and acting as an informant. “We carried out the shooting in Canada at Teji Kahlon. He was shot in the stomach. If he understands, fine. If not, next time we will finish him,” the post said.

The same message broadened the threat, singling out businessmen, builders, hawala operators and others, and warning that anyone who aids the gang’s enemies — even inadvertently — would be treated as an enemy and face violence: “This is just the beginning. Watch what happens next,” it read. The claim follows other recent cross-border violence linked to the same networks, including an attack in the United States that the post said was orchestrated by Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar.

Authorities have not been cited in the social media posts; the account and the statements have not been independently verified in the reporting. Both Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara are sought by India’s National Investigation Agency and other police units, with Brar believed to be in the U.S. and Godara reported in the U.K., while rival figure Lawrence Bishnoi remains in custody in Gujarat. The episode underscores continuing tensions and violent rivalries among transnational criminal networks tied to parts of the Punjabi diaspora.
