Walmart Canada has opened a cutting-edge distribution centre in Vaughan, Ontario, marking what company officials are calling a “game-changer” in modern logistics and supply chain management.
The sprawling 550,000-square-foot Ambient Distribution Centre, the first of its kind in Canada, integrates advanced automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence to streamline deliveries across the province. Designed to handle up to 70 million cases per year, the high-tech hub currently services 131 Walmart stores and two fulfillment centres, making it the highest-volume facility in the company’s Canadian network.
Built vertically at 94 feet tall, the facility embodies a major step in Walmart’s $6.5 billion modernization investment announced earlier this year. The centre employs over 200 people, contributing to the retailer’s 1,500-strong workforce in Vaughan, where it also operates five stores.
“This state-of-the-art facility, our most advanced in Canada, is a game-changer for our associates and our customers,” said Matt Kelly, Walmart Canada’s Vice President of Supply Chain. “It’s the start of how we’re transforming our supply network to deliver products faster and more reliably.”
Powered by AI-driven warehouse management, autonomous forklifts, and automated storage and retrieval systems, the facility represents Walmart’s new vision for next-generation logistics—offering both speed and sustainability.
Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca praised the development, highlighting its local economic impact. “This new cutting-edge facility will bring hundreds of jobs, generate new revenue, and strengthen our city’s economy,” he said.
With its combination of innovation, vertical design, and efficiency, the Vaughan centre signals a bold new era for Walmart’s Canadian operations—one built on technology, productivity, and community growth.
