Georgetown Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder After Brampton Resident’s Body Found in Toronto

TORONTO — A Georgetown man is facing a second-degree murder charge following the discovery of a Brampton resident’s body at a Toronto business earlier this week, Toronto police said Friday.

Officers responded to a call near Vulcan and Iron Streets at approximately 9:45 p.m. on October 6, where they found a deceased individual inside the premises. An autopsy conducted on October 8 confirmed the death was a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Derrick Cheung of Brampton.

On October 7, police arrested a 36-year-old man from Georgetown and initially charged him with improper or indecent interference with a dead body. A day later, he was additionally charged with second-degree murder in connection with Cheung’s death.

Police are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with information to contact the Toronto Police Service at 416-808-7400.

The case has drawn attention in both Brampton and Georgetown, as investigators work to determine the circumstances leading to the killing.
