Mississauga is set to launch a dazzling new Santa Claus parade through its downtown core this fall, promising to be bigger and brighter than ever before. Themed “Shine Bright, Sauga!” the nighttime parade will take place on Saturday, November 22, beginning at 6 p.m., and will be held in conjunction with the city’s annual Light Up the Square and Christmas tree lighting celebration at Celebration Square.
Mayor Carolyn Parrish described the new format as “one large party” that will bring the community together in a festive evening filled with light, music, and holiday cheer. “The Light Up the Square event is already one of our most popular and cherished traditions, and adding the parade makes it even more special,” she said. “It’s an opportunity for families, neighbours and visitors to come together, experience the magic of the season and showcase the diversity that makes Mississauga shine bright all year long.”
City officials explained that the new evening parade will encourage participants to decorate floats and costumes with colourful LEDs, creating a vibrant display of cultural pride, holiday traditions, and community spirit. The event, which builds on the legacy of the Santa Claus parade previously hosted by the Mississauga Auto Mall, is expected to draw larger crowds, more participants, and expanded community support.
The festivities will extend beyond the parade route, with the lighting of a 35-foot Christmas tree, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and holiday experiences across Celebration Square, Square One, and surrounding streets. To minimize traffic disruptions, organizers have confirmed the route will avoid major downtown arteries such as Burnhamthorpe Road, Rathburn Road, and Confederation Parkway.
The City of Mississauga is inviting community groups, cultural organizations, businesses, and performers to join the celebration and share their creativity and holiday spirit. Applications that meet participation criteria will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
With its mix of tradition and new energy, this year’s Santa Claus parade promises to light up Mississauga like never before.
